Hip Shing Hong Supports Youth Business Startups and Development of the Arts with Revitalized Industrial Building

Hong Kong Island South has a showplace for vitality and creativity! Genesis, the inaugural project in Hip Shing Hong’s Industrial Buildings Revitalization Scheme was officially unveiled on January 26. Conceived to support business startups by young people and promote the development of the arts, the converted building also puts into practice the concept of work-life balance. Among other things, it incorporates a large-scale fitness room and spa, kitchen, children’s activity room, and green outdoor terrace. Its main attraction is an air-conditioned “vertical gallery”, which turns its long corridors into a multistoried exhibition space for artists. The gallery is open to the public, allowing visitors to add a dose of inspiration to their work day.

Mr. Kit Szeto, Director & CEO of Dim Sum TV, was invited to the opening ceremony. With the Genesis project, an old industrial building is given a new vitality. To support young artists, entrepreneurs and onon-profit organizations, Hip Shing Hong has donated some of the space in the building. It is also renting premises to artists and young business starters at preferential rates as a way of boosting youth development. In the process, it has added a distinctive, quality workplace to the area.

Mr. David M.H. Fong, BBS, JP, Managing Director of the Hip Shing Hong Group of Companies, said during the event that Hip Shing Hong has a long tradition of giving back to society through its involvement in community-building work. More than 6 decades ago, his grandfather, Mr. Fong Shu Chuen, established the Aberdeen Kai Fong Welfare Association. Likewise, his father, Dr. Henry Y.W. Fong, founded the Fong Shu Fook Tong Foundation and Fong Yun Wah Fund in 1977 and 1986 respectively. To date, these charities have completed over 500 public service projects in China, Hong Kong and abroad.
