Top Ten SAR Government Policy Initiatives of 2014 Award Presentation Ceremony Successfully Concluded

On February 10, the award presentation ceremony for the Top Ten SAR Government Policy Initiatives of 2014 poll, jointly organized by 27 Hong Kong mainstream media, was held. Of the ten policy initiatives that made it onto the list this year, the top three vote-getters were “Authorities investigate Kevin Lau assault case to preserve freedom of the press”, “HK Government makes appropriate response to illegal Occupy Central protest” and “Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect goes into effect”.

Leung, Chief Executive of the HKSAR; Mr. Yang Jian, Deputy Director-General of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR; Mr. Patrick Nip Tak Kuen, Director of the Information Services Department of Hong Kong; Mr. Zhou Aiguo, Vice Director-General, Cultural and Sports Affairs, the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR; Mr. Lee Ka Kit, Standing Committee Member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference & Vice-Chairman of Henderson Land Development. Mr. Kit Szeto, Director & CEO of Dim Sum TV, attended the ceremony as the representative of one of the event organizers.

To help foster a strong civic spirit and encourage public and private organizations to take a keen interest in social issues and government policies, the event organizers added the Most Active Organizational Participant award to this year’s event. Mr. Kit Szeto and Mr. Zhou Aiguo, Vice Director-General, Cultural and Sports Affairs, the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, presented the award to Mr. Zhou Lianqiao, Vice-Chairman of the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions.

Since the inaugural poll in 1998, Top Ten SAR Government Policy Initiatives has grown from a relatively small civic activity to a magnificant event that can be supported and avidly followed by all walks of life. This year, over 400 guests were treated to a special video compilation of the top ten government policy initiatives of 2014 as they reviewed the past and looked forward to the future.

Now in its 17th iteration, the Top Ten SAR Government Policy Initiatives poll has enjoyed good success in rallying Hong Kong media behind a common cause. Collectively, its annual policy initiative selections have formed a key chronicle of “One Country, Two Systems” from introduction to exploration to full implementation. In the process, the event has helped bridge the government and citizenry of Hong Kong and made a useful contribution to a better future for the city and the motherland.
