Mr. C.Y. Leung, Chief Executive of the HKSAR, spoke on behalf of the guests of honour. He said, “Seventy years after our victory, our parents still remember the 3 years and 8 months of occupation by Japanese forces. They recall the suffering and humiliation of life under Japanese military rule. Above all, they hold dear the memories of friends and family who lost their lives on the battlefield and during the occupation.”

He expressed his wish that the younger generations will always keep in mind the suffering the country and Hong Kong have endured. It is out of the memories of the past that a better future will emerge.
