2018 Hong Kong Forum Development in the Bay Area and its opportunities to Hong Kong and Taiwan businesses

The 16th Hong Kong Forum organized by CS Culture Foundation was held on March 14th at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, promoting “Development in the Bay Area and its opportunities to Hong Kong and Taiwan businesses”. The forum hosted by Susie Chiang Su-hui, the chairwoman of the CS Culture Foundation, with special guest speakers: Antony Leung, former Financial Secretary of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Chairman of Nan Fung Group, Chen Shuang, CEO of China Everbright Limited, and Hung Chi-chang, Chairman of Taiwan Economic Research Association, former head of Taiwan’s Straits Exchange Foundation, shared their insights on the topic.

Implementing the Development Plan for a City Cluster in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area, the Plan, is on the agenda of this year’s Report. The Forum explored Hong Kong’s advantages to bring a “win-win” position to cities in the Bay Area. Companies from Taiwan also participated in the Forum.

The guest speakers discussed Taiwan’s role and future advantages with the development of the Bay Area. Chairman & CEO of Nan Fung Group, Antony Leung stated that the Plan should be a historical opportunity for Hong Kong. The Bay Area should be made into a hub of innovative industries, medical areas, and higher education.

CEO of China Everbright Limited, Chen Shuang indicated that the construction and development in the Bay Area should be based on cooperation. He expected labor mobility would increase in the integrated region, and unleash the synergies between cities.

Chairman of Taiwan Economic Research Association, former head of Taiwan’s Straits Exchange Foundation, Hung Chi-chang pointed out that Hong Kong would become an asset to Taiwan companies which are eager to enter the Bay Area market and boost business in China. He stressed the Plan would be a long-term opportunity for economic development of Taiwan.
