Award Ceremony of the Voting Campaign on the Top 10 Governance News Stories

The award ceremony of the Voted Top 10 news stories capturing the governance of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government in 2018 was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 13 February, 2019. Mr. Kit Szeto, Director and CEO of Dim Sum TV attended the event as an officiating guest.

Mrs. Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Chief Executive of HKSAR, Mr. Feng Xie, Commissioner of MFA Commissioner’s Office in the HKSAR, Mr. Jian Yang, Deputy Officer of the Liasion Office of the Central People’s Government, Mr. Zaizhong Jiang, Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Director of Hong Kong Ta Kung Wen Wei Media Group, Mr. Andrew Leung Kwan Yuen, President of Hong Kong Legco, Mr. Patrick Nip Tak-kuen , Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr. Wing Mau Hui, Member of the Standing Committee of CPPCC National Committee and President of the Broad of Directors of Shimao Group, Mr. Tam Kam-kau, Member of the Standing Committee of CPPCC National Committee and President of Hong Kong Volunteers Federation, and Ms. Lam Shuk Yee, Member of the Standing Committee of CPPCC National Committee and Honorary President of the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions were the officiating guests of the event. Government officials, representatives of the organizers and guests participated in the ceremony, making a total of around 400 attendees.

More than 140 thousands votes were cast, among which the opening of Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link and the launch of the mega Hong Kong-Zhuhai- Macao Bridge were nominated as top two governance news stories in 2018.

Mr. Zaizhong Jiang, Member of CPPCC National Committee and Director of Hong Kong Ta Kung Wen Wei Media Group, said Hong Kong came into a new era and may gain more opportunities of wider connections with other areas that brought about by the express rail link. Co-location arrangements of immigration and customs clearance makes the process more efficient, which maximizes the benefit of the express rail link and provides real convenience to residents in Greater Bay area, especially people who live in Hong Kong and Macau. The mega Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge greatly strengthens the interconnection of Greater Bay Area, demonstrated by the stronger relationships of people, vehicles and logistics in Hong Kong, Macao and Zhuhai. The bridge facilitates the development of economy and other aspects of living, which helps further integrate Hong Kong and Macao into the overall development of China.

In the speech of Mrs. Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Chief Executive of HKSAR, she said the 10 best governance news stories came into being rather naturally, since the large-scale infrastructure brought infinite opportunities to Hong Kong and made it easier for people to travel. The next level development of Greater Bay Area commences this year and the blueprint of Great Bay Area to be unveiled next week is expected to bring more benefits to residents in the area.
