CGCC National Day Cocktail Reception Toasts China’s Achievements And Hong Kong’s Prosperity

Close to 600 guests were on hand to celebrate the 63rd anniversary of China’s National Day at a special cocktail reception hosted by the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC) on September 24. During the festivities, a toast was raised to an ascendant China and a prosperous Hong Kong.
Mr. Jonathan Choi, Chairman of the CGCC, said in his welcoming speech that the CGCC has long been a staunch supporter of national development. Locally, it has also been a driving force behind Hong Kong’s participation in regional development as well as the city’s pursuit of prosperity, stability and sustainable development.

Among those present at the event was Mr. Kit Szeto, Member of the Standing Committee and Chairman of the Art and Culture Committee of the CGCC and Director & CEO of Dim Sum TV.
The evening’s guests of honour were Mr. C.Y. Leung, Chief Executive of the HKSAR, Ms. Yin Xiaojing, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, Mr. Hong Xiaoyong, Deputy Commissioner of the Commissioner’s Office of the Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR, and Ms. Elsie Leung, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong Basic Law Committee.

Mr. Jonathan Choi said that the 63 years since the new China was founded have been marked by great achievements in economic development, politics, science and technology as well as culture. By any indicator, the country has been going from strength to strength. He thanked the Central Government for its support of Hong Kong’s continuous development, and expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the HKSAR government, the business community as well as society as a whole in realizing the principles of “One Country, Two Systems” and “Hong Kong People Governing Hong Kong”. The Central Government, he said, has also been unstinting in its support of Hong Kong’s participation in the regional cooperation between East Asian countries, which will further amplify Hong Kong’s competitive advantage as a regional hub.
The guests were joined in their National Day celebrations by the Vice Chairmen, Honorary chairman, Committee Members and Members of the CGCC.
