“Media Circles Held Cocktail Reception to Mark 65th National Day.

In the afternoon of September 26, the Hong Kong news media community held the Hong Kong News Media 65th National Day Cocktail Reception. The city’s news and media representatives turned out in force for the event to toast the 65th National Day and the future of the Hong Kong news industry.

Numerous long-time friends and supporters of the Hong Kong press were invited to the event. The guests of honour were Mr. C.Y. Leung, Chief Executive of the HKSAR; Mr. Yang Jian, Deputy Director-General of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR; Ms. Jiang Yu, spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry of the People’s Republic of China; Mr. Zhang Zhimeng, Deputy Political Commissar of the People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison; Mr. Jasper Tsang Yok Sing, President of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong. The reception included sumptuous food and drinks for the guests. As a token of its gratitude to society for its support for the event, the organizers also presented the sponsoring organizations and other eminent individuals with certificates of appreciation.

As Deputy Director of the Media Circles Preparatory Committee for National Day Celebrations and Director & CEO of Dim Sum TV, Mr. Kit Szeto has long been a stalwart supporter of Hong Kong’s fourth estate. At the reception, Mr. Szeto caught up with many friends, associates, and prominent media figures.

The event began with the playing of the national anthem and a welcoming speech by Mr. Zhang Guo Liang, President of the Media Circles Preparatory Committee for National Day Celebrations. Mr. Zhang said, “China has today reached a level of national strength and prestige that recalls the heyday of the Tang and Sung Dynasties. Its place at the apex of a new world order is assured.” Regarding the development of the media industry, he pointed out, “Hong Kong’s media practitioners are patriots as well as strong proponents of the development of China and Hong Kong. The best way for the news fraternity to put its patriotism into practice is to enable our compatriots and the world to acquire a truer, deeper and fuller understanding of our country through its coverage and commentary. The press has no higher calling than that.”

As a metropolis where East meets West, Hong Kong is a prime breeding ground for cultural and artistic talents. Since its founding, Dim Sum TV has been at the forefront of the effort to popularize China’s cultural legacy. Since 2012, its infotainment series From Guangdong to the Future has received popular acclaim for its vivid chronicle of the colorful culture of southern Guangdong. In the future, Dim Sum TV will remain ever committed to the development of cultural industries as well as the news media of Hong Kong.
