CGCC Launches “We Care, We Share” Short Film Competition

As one of the largest business association in Hong Kong, with a 114 years history the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC) has long spearheaded public service initiatives aimed at fostering goodwill and compassion among the general public. In the afternoon of October 14, a press conference was held in the CGCC ceremonial hall to announce the launch of the We Care, We Share Short Film Competition. The special event attracted good large turnout of media representatives and private citizens alike.

Mr. Tommy Li Ying Sang, Standing Committee Member of the CGCC, was the emcee at the press conference. Those present included Mr. Kit Szeto, Chairman of the Cultural Industries Committee of the CGCC and Director & CEO of Dim Sum TV; Mr. Nelson Ho Chi Kai, Chairman of the CGCC We Care, We Share Campaign Committee; Mr. Phoebus Chan, the composer of the “We Care, We Share” theme song; Mr. Mok Hong Fai, Director of the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups’ M21 Media Space. Singer George Lam, the performer of the We Care, We Share theme song, was also on hand to share his thoughts.

Mr. Chong Hok Shan, Vice-Chairman of the CGCC, presented an overview of We Care, We Share to the audience. As an ongoing public service project, the campaign is undertaken to rally corporate support to help disadvantaged communities through tangible actions. Using the CGCC public service platform to amplify its message of love, the campaign serves as a catalyst through which the warmth of charitable action by a caring society can spread to those in need.

The event reached a climax when video highlights from the campaign, accompanied by the moving strains of the theme song, were shown, leaving no one at the event unaffected. Mr. George Lam said he hoped the beautiful melody of We Care, We Share would help bring out the true Hong Kong spirit and reach a wider audience. Mr. Phoebus Chan, who wrote We Care, We Share, said that the composing of the music coincided with the birth of his daughter, making the song a wonderfully joyous, inspired creation.

Mr. Kit Szeto, Chairman of the Cultural Industries Committee of the CGCC and Director & CEO of Dim Sum TV also interacted with the audience. He said the competition is conceived to encourage creativity, and urged participants to record moments of genuine warmth and generosity in their daily lives though music and images. This would not only give the cultural fraternity added inspiration, but would also help spread the message of love and caring.

The promotion of the competition will begin in October. The judging will take place in February or March of next year, while the award ceremony will be held in April. A variety of creative expressions will be welcomed. In addition to recognizing the best three entrants and merit winners, the competition will also include a number of online voting facilities to invite public participation. ”
