Mr. Kit Szeto Begins 2nd Consecutive Term As Standing Committee Member at the 49th Term CGCC Board Inaugural Ceremony

On November 20, the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC) held its 49th Term Board Inaugural Ceremony Dinner Party. Close to 2,000 guests were on hand to mark the occasion, the highlights of which included a joint dragon and lion dance with a special formation of 9 lions of varying sizes and a 150-ft. long golden dragon, as well as live performances by a stellar lineup of recording artists. Mr. Charles Yeung, Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, was elected Chairman of the CGCC for a second consecutive term, while Mr. Kit Szeto, Director & CEO of Dim Sum TV, was also re-elected as Standing Committee Member. All the new board members re-affirmed their commitment to promoting a stable and prosperous Hong Kong and contributing to the revival of the Chinese nation as articulated by the “Chinese Dream”.

For the event, the CGCC invited a number of dignitaries to be the guests of honour. They included Mr. Tung Chee Hwa, Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC; Mr. C.Y. Leung, Chief Executive of the HKSAR; Mr. Zhang Xiaoming, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR; Mr. Song Zhe, Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong; Mr. Li Weiya, Deputy Commander of the People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison; Mr. Zhao Yang, Deputy Director of the CPPCC’s Committee for Liaison with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese; Mr. Zhuang Rongwen, Deputy Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Department of the PRC; Ms. Zhao Yufang, Vice-Governor of Guangdong Province.

In his welcoming speech, Mr. Charles Yeung, Member of the National Committee of the CPPCC, paid tribute to the work of the previous CGCC board. He was especially appreciative of its efforts in supporting the HKSAR government’s lawful administration and promoting Hong Kong’s constitutional development, strengthening the four-way ties between the business communities on both sides of the Strait, and stepping up interaction with Chinese businesses around the world. Also noted was the previous board’s sponsorship of various student exchange, internship and training programs to foster a deeper national pride and awareness among the younger generations. Looking ahead, he said the CGCC will continue to build on the foundation of its strengths and continue its support of the HKSAR government in its implementation of the general election of the chief executive by “One Man, One Vote” in 2017.

The dinner party consisted of a total of 143 banquet tables. On the guest list were many Hong Kong representatives at the National People’s Congress, CPPCC members, ranking officials of the HKSAR government, members of the Executive and Legislative Councils, prominent figures of local business and industry, representatives of the Hong Kong offices of mainland and Taiwan organizations, leaders of a number of foreign diplomatic services in Hong Kong as well as overseas chambers of commerce, and various mainland and Macao delegations.

The entertainment program for the evening included a special joint dragon and lion dance by Xia Guo Zhang, a stirring rendition of Beach of Shanghai by renowned vocalist Ms. Frances Yip, and live performances by Ms. Mimi Lo and pop diva Ms. Joey Yung.
