Chinese General Chamber of Commerce Chinese New Year Cocktail Reception

On February 24, the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC) held its annual Chinese New Year cocktail reception. The CGCC leadership was joined by close to 600 guests from all walks of life to mark the beginning of the New Year. To mark the occasion, a toast was raised to world peace, an ascendant China, and a stable and prosperous Hong Kong.

The guests of honour at the launch ceremony included Mr. C.Y. Leung, Chief Executive of the HKSAR,Mr. Zhang Xiaoming, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region,Mr. Hu Jianzhong , Deputy Commissioner, Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the HKSAR, Mrs. Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet Ngor, GBS, JP, Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Government, Mr Cai yongzhong,Deputy Political Commissar of the People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison, Mr. Jasper Tsang Yok Sing, President of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong, Mr Tsang Hin-chi, former committee member of National People‘s Congress Standing Committee .

In his Chinese New Year address, Mr. Charles Yeung, Chairman of the CGCC, pointed out in ancient times, the Chinese word “goat” was a synonym for “luck”, and today still carries a host of auspicious connotations. As this is the Year of the Goat, he hoped that Hong Kong would be blessed with the best of luck. On a political note, he said that the passing of the proposed constitutional reform would indeed be a historical landmark and a true benediction for the people of Hong Kong.Mr. Yeung urged Hong Kong people to grasp the opportunity presented by the second round of consultation on constitutional reform to find a consensus that includes and benefits all stakeholders. He said that, through rational and constructive dialogue within the context of the Basic Law, the National People’s Congress Standing Committee’s interpretations and decisions as well as the rule of law, the democratic election of the Chief Executive by one-man-one-vote will be realized in 2017.

Mr. Kit Szeto, Member of the Standing Committee and Vice-Chairman of the Cultural Industries Committee of the CGCC, and Director & CEO of Dim Sum TV, was also on hand to exchange holiday well-wishes with other celebrants.
