Hong Kong Federation of Guangzhou Associations Established to Promote Bilateral Development

After more than a year of planning and preparation, the Hong Kong Federation of Guangzhou Associations (HKFGA) held a cocktail reception to celebrate its inauguration on the evening of March 24. With over 1,500 federation members and guests in attendance, the reception was marked by a festive atmosphere. The HKFGA unites a wide spectrum of organizational and individual members, allies in the promotion of the interests of China and Hong Kong. To date, over 10,000 members have already joined its ranks.

Within the federation, there are separate committees tasked with youth, commercial, community liaison, women, professional and external affairs, among others. Through these committees, the federation will actively participate in civic and social activities on both sides of the border, and provide a much broader platform for all pro-China, -Hong Kong and -Guangzhou individuals. In doing so, it aims to help inject a new vitality and momentum into the continued development of a prosperous Hong Kong.

Mr. Fok Chun Wan, SBS, JP, Founding President of the HKFGA, and Mr. Wu Jianhua, Mayor of Guangzhou, spoke at the ceremony. Outlining for the audience the motivations behind the HKFGA’s establishment, Mr. Fok said that the federation’s mandate is to rally the patriotic forces in Hong Kong, and contribute not only to the ongoing development of country and city, but also the strengthening of ties between Hong Kong and Guangzhou.

The other representatives included: Mr.C.Y.Leung,Chief Executive of the HKSAR, Mr. LAM Mo, Deputy Director Of Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government, Mr Song ruan, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the HKSAR, Mr Zheng gangmiao, Director of three political parties in United Front Work Department, Mr Lin Xiong, Guangdong provincial committee, Mr Su zhijia, Chairman of the Guangzhou Municipal CPPCC.
