Award Presentation Ceremony Held for Chinese General Chamber of Commerce “ We Care • We Share ”Short Film Competition

The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC) has long taken the lead in encouraging the local business community to promote social harmony by fulfilling its social responsibility. In 2009, it launched the ongoing “We Share•We Care” campaign to help the disadvantaged through corporate initiative. Now the inaugural “WE Care•We Share” Short Film Competition has provided an additional platform for spreading this message of love and compassion.

The short film competition calls for entries based on the song “We Care, We Share” sung by Mr. George Lam. Since its launch in October of last year, it has prompted the participation of many students and citizens.

Among the guests invited to the ceremony was Mr. Matthew Cheung Kin Chung, GBS, JP, Secretary for Labour and Welfare. Speaking to the audience, Mr. Cheung said the competition put on center stage a sense of social responsibility that exemplifies caring and mutual acceptance. He expressed his hope that the event would help transmit positive energy to all walks of life and restore the collective spirit of Hong Kong people. Mr. Chong Hok Shan, Vice-Chairman of the CGCC, took the opportunity to thank Mr. George Lam and Mr. Chan Chun Hin, the singer and songwriter respectively of We Care, We Share, for their contributions.

The “We Care• We Share ”Short Film Competition was divided into the student division and the open division. Award certificates and cash prizes were given in the Most Caring, Most Creative, Most “Liked” Short Film categories, as well as to the winner, first runner-up, second runner-up and merit award winners in the student and open divisions. On hand to present the second runner-up’s award in the open division was Mr. Kit Szeto, Vice-Chairman of the Cultural Industries Committee of the CGCC and Director & CEO of Dim Sum TV.

Ms. Ruby Yang, Chairperson of the Judging Panel and winner of an Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Film, expressed her delight at the large number of participants from different age groups. She also stressed the importance of popular participation to the success of the competition. Film director and one of the judges, Mr. Adam Wong, encouraged the contestants to develop an avid interest in a variety of movie genres so as to assimilate different influences. The judging panel also included Mr. Ken Lee, Lecturer, Department of Communication Design and Digital Media of the Hong Kong Design Institute, and Mr. Mok Hong Fai, Director of the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups’ M21 Media Space. The award ceremony was concluded amid enthusiastic applause. As Dr. Charles Yeung said, the competition will no doubt help spark the flame of love across the city.
