Cross-Strait and Hong Kong-Macao Economic Forum Explores Development Prospects of Financial and Cultural Industries

In the afternoon of August 20, the Cross-Strait and Hong Kong-Macao Economic Forum, jointly organized by the Hong Kong Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC), the China Federation of Industrial Economics (CFIE), The Chinese National Association of Industry and Commerce (CNAIC) and the Macao Chamber of Commerce, was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Under the theme of “Innovation: Technology and Culture”, guests explored the development prospects of the online financial technology and cultural creative sectors. Over 200 individuals from commerce and industry attended the event.

In his speech, Mr. Charles Yeung, Chairman of the CGCC, said that the rapid development of the mainland economy has brought with it ever-closer quadrilateral economic ties across the Strait as well as a wealth of opportunities to the Greater China business world. He welcomed the insights and perspectives brought to the Forum by representatives of the participating enterprises in a collective effort to find the best way forward for the financial technology and cultural creative industries on both sides of the Strait.

This year’s Forum was subdivided into two sessions: “Internet+: Financial and Service Industries” and “Cultural and Creative Industries”.

Mr. He Zongsheng, the founder of online debit card payment platform Dodopal, chaired the first session, “Internet+: Financial and Service Industries”. Speaking from their own professional perspectives, the guest speakers offered ideas for stepping up the development and meeting challenges in the areas of online financial market, professional services, e-commerce and the adoption of new technology by enterprises.

The second session, “Cultural and Creative Industries”, was chaired by Mr. Kit Szeto, President & CEO of Dim Sum TV. Contextualizing the discussion under the development of cultural and creative industries, Mr. Szeto engaged the guest speakers on a dialogue that probed such issues as the diversification of cultural and creative industries, the nurturing of creative talents, and government policies and support. Their exchange yielded greater understanding on development of the cultural and creative industries across the Strait.

Now in its fourth consecutive year, the Cross-Strait and Hong Kong-Macao Economic Forum has become an important platform for promoting the long-term development of the Greater China region and strengthening quadrilateral communication and exchange across the Strait.
