The Way for Corporate Development Probed as Awards Presented to Outstanding Performance in Corporate Social Responsibility
The 5th Annual Award for the Outstanding Performance in Corporate Social Responsibility Delivered by Enterprises from Four-Regions (Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau) (abbreviated as the Award below) had its award presenting ceremony held on 30 March 2016 at the Hotel Icon. The Award is initiated and organized by Hong Kong-based , The Mirror, which is a media focusing on cultural communications. Dim Sum TV, which is the media organization supporting the Award, attended and witnessed the event.

The Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr. C. Y. Leung, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech in which he pointed out that a mature enterprise needs to fulfill all kinds of social responsibility apart from striving to make profit for its shareholders and employees. He regards three “P”s as the three targets towards whom an enterprise has to take responsibility, namely Profit, Planet and People.

Ms Xu Xinying, President of The Mirror, also delivered a speech in which she expressed thanks to the people from various sectors in Hong Kong for their enormous support and encouragement shown for the Award over the years. With time , the Award has become a brand-building event for The Mirror. The event has created opportunities for exchanges and sharing so that more and more people from various sectors of the community and the general public can be aware that an enterprise could acquire the elements and drive for its own sustainable development only if it knows its own responsibility.

There is a new and innovative item created for the Award this year, namely the selection of the “Young Ambassador Promoting Social Responsibility”. The Mirror hopes that this initiative will motivate young people to start their own business.

Mr Yang Jianwen from Berne Optical (Shenzhen) Co, LTD won the Award for outstanding enterprise practicing corporate social responsibility. He referred to a quote from the ancient Chinese philosopher Confucian, “At thirty, I stood firm”, to bring out that his 30-year-old company got its achievements with the collaboration and solidarity among the company’s excellent work team as well as recognition and support for the company from various sectors of the community. He also pointed out that the criteria for The Mirror to confer the Award were also important strategies adopted by his company.

The corporate governance mode adopted by those advanced countries in the 21st century does not offer a definition for corporate social responsibility. Yet it is believed that an enterprise being responsible for caring its employees, valuing its promise to customers, protecting the environment, concerning for public benefit initiatives and developing its own corporate culture are all indispensable elements for practicing corporate social responsibility. It is hoped that such an annual event of presenting the Award can enable enterprises from all sectors of the community to strengthen the promotion of corporate social responsibility and hence make contribution to society.
