The Bauhinia Valley Innovation Summit on the theme of “Millions of Us Go for Innovation and Creating Start-ups” was held at Wanchai in Hong Kong at 9am on 15 June. The Summit was jointly organized by the Hong Kong China Chamber Of Commerce and the Bauhinia Valley Innovation and Development Centre. Participating including experts, academics, entrepreneurs and youths starting their own business gathered at the event to share their unique views on relevant topics.

Has the younger generation well prepared for joining the tide of creating start-ups?
For how the youths can perform well in creating start-ups, Mr Wang Fan, Dean of Sun Yat-sen Business School of Sun Yat-sen University pointed out that the prime concern is a good grasp of the development of the macro economy of the community. He felt that facing the rapid development of modern society, how to integrate resources and optimize business management are two issues young entrepreneurs need to handle and think seriously. Mr Zhu Renhong, Deputy Director of the School of Entrepreneurship of Sun Yat-sen University gave an 8-Chinese characters maxim as advice to the youngsters attending the event with a passion for creating their own business as: “I hope every entrepreneur who has a passion for creating his/her own business can also learn the principle of ‘act at the right time and estimate one’s own strength for action’.”
There is still a long way to go on how to narrow the gap between education and practice platform
Professor Lu Yunbo, Director of the Center for the Simulation of Engineering Organizations of Tongji University shared with the guests his prediction of the characteristics of the big data era. For contemporary educators at universities, Professor Lu thought that they should think more on what areas the future universities should expand into and how to link up the span between practice in the community and the platform of higher education institutions, so that students can apply what they learn to their professions or work areas immediately after they have left their ivory tower. Only with this , students can better input innovative ideas and new energy to their professions.

Mr Zhao Lei, founder and CEO of HKFanr Limited shares his experience of running start-up business
Mr Zhao Lei, founder and CEO of HKFanr Limited delivered a speech titled “Stars and Sea for a Hong Kong entrepreneur”. He thanked those seniors from the business sectors who had helped him in starting up his own business. He also shared his new exploration of cross-border e-commerce business. Guo Tianshan, a youngster born in the 1990s having graduated from the Jinan University with specialty in advertising, who is like a new born calf, brave enough not to fear tigers shared with the attendees his experience from participating in fierce commerce competitions at school to the founding of the Shimizu Uji Catering Management Limited after graduation. Although his company is still at its early stage, Guo Tianshan said that he would adopt the spirit of a “craftsman” to learn from on the job practice and to make his company’s brand big with solid strength.
Tseng Chin I, Financial Programs Anchor of Phoenix Television hosts the Summit
During the Summit, the Financial Programs Anchor of Phoenix Television Tseng Chin I raised a new question, “Do we after all create jobs or create new business?” Perhaps innovation and the creation of new business are complementary. The ultimate goal of creating new business is to innovate and create values for the community. The discussion session of this open-end question boosted up the atmosphere to enable the event reached its climax.
It is learnt that the Bauhinia Valley Supporting Centre was created by Hong Kong China Chamber Of Commerce together with various other chambers of commerce formed by Hong Kong and Chinese businesspeople from mainland China and overseas, including 10 higher education institutions on the mainland. The Supporting Centre provides, according to the advantages of each institution, supporting services and courses on various professions such as technology innovation and development, the internet and the cultural and creative industries.
This aims to provide entrepreneurs with a platform of learning, exchanges and cooperation. We look forward to seeing its achievements.
