CGCC’s Hong Kong Summit explores new opportunities and ideas from regional co-operation between Hong Kong and East Asia region

One of the remarkable HKSAR’s 20th anniversary celebration events was jointly organized by Chinese General Chamber of Commerce’s (CGCC) and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre on July 11th , namely the Hong Kong Summit: Regional Co-operation between Hong Kong and East Asia—Innovating New Ideas Embracing New Opportunities.

Mr. Kit Szeto, a member of Standing Committee of the CGCC and CEO & Director of Dim Sum TV, attended the summit with discussions on the development of innovative cultural development.

During the officiating ceremony, Chief Executive Mrs. Carrie Lam introduced the national OBOR (One Belt One Road) economic strategy and believed that Hong Kong must be proactive in playing the “super-connector” role among ASEAN countries under this strategy.

The summit was divided into the morning (The ministers of trade and commerce from ASEAN countries and VIP guests) and the afternoon (entrepreneurs and scholars) plenary sessions.

Different from the macro perspective of the speakers in the morning plenary sessions, the outstanding entrepreneur representatives incorporated the rich and detail-oriented content into the speeches.

One of the impressive speeches was delivered by Mr. Jim Lai, Vice President of Tencent and Head of Tencent Financial Technology Department about the success behind WeChat red packets of integrating the social and financial technology.

During the summit forum, all the guests expressed their different views on the future development of East Asian economy and regional economic cooperation. If the East Asian region is an "economic Express" full of power and opportunities, it will be interesting to see how this express train shall proceed in face of upcoming potential opportunities and challenges.
