The 70th Anniversary of the Publication of Hong Kong Wen Wei Po and the Launch of “Friends of Wen Wei” Ceremony

The 70th Anniversary of the Publication of Hong Kong Wen Wei Po and the Launch of “Friends of Wen Wei” Ceremony was held on September 9th at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre Conference Hall. More than 900 renowned guests from local and abroad, including those from Hong Kong’s political, business, cultural, educational, professional, media and performing arts sectors, as well as foreign consuls in Hong Kong, leaders of the central government in Hong Kong and Chinese-funded institutions, gathered to celebrate the 70th birthday of Wen Wei Po and witness the launch of the patriotic society "Friends of Wen Wei", which is composed of elite readers of Wen Wei Po.

Leung Chun-ying, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference; Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and Yang Jian, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, attended the ceremony and each delivered a speech. Yang Yirui, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the HKSAR; James Lau, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury; John Lee Ka-chiu, Secretary for Security; Frank Chan, Secretary for Transport and Housing; Kevin Yeung Yun-hung, Secretary for Education, and Andy Chan Shui-fu, Under Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, also attended the ceremony. Hong Kong’s famous singer Joey Yung was appointed the ambassador of "Friends of Wen Wei", and many other celebrities such as Carina Lau, Eric Tsang Chi Wai, Nancy Sit and current Miss Hong Kong also presented to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Wen Wei Po.

Publisher Jiang Zaizhong, also president of Ta Kung Wen Wei Media Group, said that looking into the future, Wen Wei Po will not forget its original intentions, and will fulfill its responsibilities and mission to combine the needs of the country and the overall development of Hong Kong with the promotion of innovation and communication capabilities. Also will adhere to the correct direction of public opinion and media value, further enhance credibility, propagation and influence, in order to make new contributions to Hong Kong’s long-term prosperity and stability, as well as the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

In her speech, Chief Executive Carrie Lam said that since 1996, Wen Wei Po’s official website (www.wenweipo.com) is one of the most visited local newspaper websites. It has also developed a smart phone application that provides convenience for readers and expands its readership. The newly launched "Friends of Wen Wei" is another breakthrough. It will unite people from all walks of life among Hong Kong, Mainland and overseas to care for and support "Wen Wei Po", and jointly promote the various causes of Wen Wei Po and the harmony and stability of Hong Kong society.

Leung Chun-ying, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, said in his speech that he has been a loyal subscriber for 41 years. He expressed his warm congratulations on Wen Wei Po’s extraordinary 70 years.

Yang Jian, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, said in his speech that he hopes that Hong Kong Wen Wei Po will not forget its original intentions, keep in mind its mission, seize opportunities, face challenges, innovate means and channels, to promote the deep integration of media development vigorously, and use personalized production and visualization to spread the story of China and the story of Hong Kong interactively.

Mr. Szeto Kit, Director and CEO of Dim Sum TV, participated in the ceremony of the 70th anniversary of Wen Wei Po.
