Opening Ceremony of the voting campaign on the 10 best governance news stories capturing Hong Kong special administrative region government’s governance in 2018

Dim Sum TV attended the opening ceremony of the voting campaign on the 10 best governance news stories in 2018 as one of the host organizations. Co-hosted by more than 20 media organizations in Hong Kong, the voting campaign was officially initiated with a solemn launching ceremony at the exhibition hall of Ta Kung Pao on the 20th December 2018. Officiating guests of the opening ceremony Ms. Cathy Chu Man Ling, director of information services, and Mr. Li Haitang, deputy head of the publicity department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR.

Jiang Yabing, director of Hong Kong Ta Kung Wen Wei Media Group, said under the leadership of President Xi Jinping and China’s central government, the HKSAR government persisted in ‘One Country, Two Systems’ Policy and the Basic Law, which enabled Hong Kong’s economy to develop steadily, people’s livelihood to improve sustainably, the overall society to remain harmonious and stable, all walks of undertakings to make considerable progress, and the tie with mainland China to get continuously closer in this year. He also pointed out that the most impressive event this year was the launch of the Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link and the opening of the mega Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. He believed that people are more confident for the integration and development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area by experiencing the convenience of the bridge and the rail link.

In addition, Jiang also indicated that 20 nominated significant events covered politics, economy, people’s livelihood, education, medical industry and environmental protection sector, including the setting-up of the leading group for the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the disqualification of candidates who advocated the independence of Hong Kong in the By-election of Legislative Council, the weighted voting right, the cancel of offsetting mechanism of the Mandatory Provident Fund, as well as the Life Annuity Scheme. The events under the leadership of the HKSAR government’s Chief executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor had really made great contributions and drawn a blueprint for the future development of Hong Kong.

Officiating guests encouraged citizens to vote on the website (top10.wenweipo.com) for the news coverage that best captured the special administrative region government’s governance this year, as the annual city-wide voting campaign for Hong Kong’s top news on governance. The deadline for the voting is 15 January 2019 while results will come out on 21 January 2019.
