The First Media Summit of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Held in Guangzhou

The first Media Summit of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was held in Guangzhou Baiyun International Convention Center on May 19th, 2019. The Summit strengthened media’s responsibilities to connect Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao for the sake of building a remarkable Bay Area. The opening ceremony, themed forums and parallel sessions were included. Mr. Kit Szeto, Standing Committee Member of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong, Vice president of InnoTech, Creativity and Culture Committee, Director and CEO of Dim Sum TV, was invited to attend the Summit.

Mr. Li Xi, Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, Mrs. Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Chief Executive of HKSAR, Mr. Wong Sio Chak, Representative of Chief Executive of Macao Special Administrative Region and Secretariat for Security of Macao, Wang Zhimin, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in HKSAR, and Mr. Fu Ziying, Director of Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region delivered speeches in the opening ceremony. Huang Kunming, Member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of CPC Central Committee, Member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, and Head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of CPC Central Committee said in his speech that news media should be mindful of Greater Bay Area, be brave in taking responsibilities and strengthen the cooperation to create favorable environment for public opinion and build up a world-class bay area. Huang stressed that media played an irreplaceable role in inspiring people to develop the Greater Bay Area, and called for cultural confidence, national identity and patriotism in their coverages.

The Summit issued an Initiative of the first Media Summit of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, appealing for that media organizations adapted to the developing trend of traditional and emerging media and the conventions of news dissemination, and enhance their influence, competitiveness and integration by innovation and technology.

The first Media Summit of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was supported by the State Council Information, the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in HKSAR, the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macao, People’s Government of Guangdong Province, jointly organized by Nan Fang Media Group of Guangdong, Hong Kong Ta Kung Wen Wei Media Group and Macao Daily. More than 300 guests and representatives from the government and media attended the Summit.
