Dim Sum TV sponsors the musical
“A Mui Live”

The popular musical “A Mui Live” finished its third run in Hong Kong on August 16th completing a total of seven shows since July 30th. Dim Sum TV was the official sponsor for the Charity Premiere held by the Suicide Prevention Services (SPS) on the closing night of August 16.

“A Mui Live” was produced by Hong Kong’s flagship theater house, Spring-Time Stage Productions and directed, produced and written by celebrity director Mr. Ko Chi-sum. Singer Alice Lau has interpreted 32 of the Cantopop queen Anita Mui’s biggest hits throughout the show. The plot is a tragic story of determination and unrequited love. Born into poverty, only through sheer determination and dedication was the Cantopop queen able to transform herself into the city’s biggest and brightest star. Through her husky vocals, charismatic stage presence and unparalleled showmanship, she came to define an era. But the dizzying success she enjoyed on stage was never present in her personal life. Despite her fervent belief in love, she spent her tragically short life alone and single. But the anthems she left behind will continue to live on as a testament to the power of love, determination and hope, a collective memory that unites a generation.

Dim Sum TV Director David Pong called the musical a compliment to the legendary queen of Cantopop, and broadcasted a message of respect for life, hope, and optimism. Mr. Pong believes this is very much in keeping with the spirit of Dim Sum TV.

All proceeds from ticket sales of “A Mui Live” were donated to the SPS charitable organization, whose main service is a 24-hour suicide prevention hotline manned by trained volunteers, which is dedicated to assisting depressed, desperate and suicidal people from all walks of life. Callers are offered emotional support, care, acceptance and active listening. According to the SPS spokesperson, the organization chose to support “A Mui Live” because of its message of respect for life, willpower and dignity, a message that resonates well with the overall mission of the SPS.
