After the national anthem of the People’s Republic of China was played, the Executive Committee Chairman, Mr. Zhang Guo Liang, delivered a speech to the many distinguished guests. His speech highlighted two heartfelt issues of the year for the Chinese nation: great tragedy and great rejoicing. Tragedy struck with the Wenchuan earthquake, where over 80,000 people died. Great rejoicing, meanwhile, came with the successful Beijing Olympics, and the successful launch of the “Shenzhou 7” spacecraft. Mr. Zhang explained that in all of these events, the Hong Kong media has shown a high degree of professionalism and love for their fellow countrymen and the nation.

After his speech, Mr. Zhang Guo Liang and other guests of honor raised their glasses for a toast: together, they wished that the homeland would continue to grow prosperous and strong, and that Hong Kong would flourish and be harmonious, and that the media industry in Hong Kong would continue to develop in a steady and healthy manner.
