During the event, the documentary "May Fourth Movement" was shown on the square's giant screen, taking the young viewers back through 91 years to a time when China stood on the threshold of momentous changes, giving them a valuable look at modern Chinese history as well as sense of collective purpose. The flag-raising ceremony was held at 8 o'clock in the morning. Led by a children's choir, the Chinese National Youth Alliance "May 4" Delegation, the Macau Youth Delegation, Hong Kong's youth representatives and all the guests in attendance joined in the singing of the national anthem. Four flag-bearers, who had been selected from over 100,000 uniformed youth cadets, then raised the flags of the People's Republic and the Hong Kong SAR in a solemn ceremony.
