Star-studded Press Event Highlights the Premiere of The Delta Missions in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau

The Delta Missions, a brand new infotainment program co-produced by Dim Sum TV and GuangDong XingHuang Culture & Communication Co. Ltd., debuted in a regional simulcast on the province-wide Guangdong Public Channel, Channel 539 of Hong Kong’s now TV and Channel 16 of Macau Cable TV on August 9, 2010. The show takes the audience on a tour of Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan to offer them a rare glimpse into 48 fun and fascinating occupations.

A press event was held to celebrate the launching of our new program “The Delta Missions” in Hong Kong on August 5, 2010. The show’s anchor, Law Ka Ying, plus the 6 hosts, including Macau’s Soler, Taiwan’s Brian, Dim Sum TV presenters Howard, Sam and Woody were all on hand to share their experiences from hosting the show. What does it take to be a Hong Kong kung fu movie actor? What kind of training does a Macau Grand Prix driver have to go through? How do you become a Guangzhou Asian Games 2010 volunteer? What exactly is the Electric Trio, the act that has become such a hit in Taiwan in recent years? The Delta Missions has all the answers and more.

The press event also showcased a number of special performances, including: a traditional Chinese lion dance, a live demonstration by the winner of the Hong Kong Youth Kam Cha Competition, a canine obedience show from Hong Kong, Macau’s Cirque Du Soleil and the Electric Trio from Taiwan.

The show’s host to Macau are the twin brothers Soler. For their assignment, they have personally tried out no fewer than 12 occupations, including race car driver, trishaw driver, and substitute teacher. They even had to bungee jump from the 233 meter high Macau Tower.

Dim Sum TV’s trio of resident heartthrobs, Howard, Sam and Woody, represented the next generation of TV personalities in Guangdong and Hong Kong, and each had his own insight to share. Howard said his firsthand experience of different occupations reminded him that success is all in the details. Sam said he is the kind of person who loves whatever he is doing, and thought that we should always be passionate about what we do for a living. Woody was glad that he’d had the chance to learn about so many different occupations.

Brian, the winner of the Best Variety Show Presenter Award at the 42nd Golden Bell Awards, is The Delta Missions’ host for Taiwan. A former cast member of many well-known TV dramas, Brian has had a successful second career as a TV presenter. He said the show not only taught him the basics of many different professional skills, but it also made him realize the amount of hard work that had gone into every job.

Goldie, the show’s mascot, also appeared at the press event. Goldie would appear at irregular intervals during every show. After the show, the audience may text the number of times Goldie has appeared during the show to a designated number for a chance to win a special prize. Winners can even accumulate their correct answers for the final draw.

The show covers 4 locations: Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. From Monday to Thursday, the show highlights a different occupation every day for the hosts to experience firsthand. On Friday, Law Ka Ying sums up the 4 occupations featured on the previous four nights. Each location has 12 episodes, the summary episode also has 12 episodes, hence a total of 60 episodes.

The production team and broadcasting platform for The Delta Missions combine the advantages of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau. GD XingHuang Culture & Communication Co. Ltd. is a cultural media consulting firm specializing in project planning, management and related services for the film and TV industries. It has an elite staff of media professionals from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, and has a wealth of experience in the China and international markets.

Guangdong Public Channel began broadcasting on July 1, 2002, to all cities, counties, towns and villages in Guangdong, with basic province-wide coverage of over 90% and 80 million viewers.

Dim Sum TV is the first TV channel dedicated to providing the Greater Pearl River Delta region with a unique program lineup of news and infotainment. It is broadcast in Hong Kong on now TV’s Channel 539, and was launched on Channel 16 of Macau Cable TV.
