The program culminated in “The Solar Project 2010 Finale Concert” at the Aberdeen Sports Ground on August 29. During the event, all those present took the opportunity to express their condolences for the families of the victims of the Philippine hostage-taking incident and appealed for solidarity among Hong Kong people in difficult times. In anticipation of the Guangzhou Asian Games in November, the event concluded with a flag-conferring and swearing-in ceremony. Mr. Kit Szeto, Director and CEO of Dim Sum TV, attended the event.

The Solar Project is in its 22nd year. Its purpose is to encourage youths to make the most of their summer holidays by releasing their positive energies and creativity, and embodying perseverance and family values. The program also encourages youths to take part in meaningful summer activities in order to serve the community and enrich their own experience. Its spirit of never giving up is very much the same as that of the athletes heading for the Asian Games.

All these values were highlighted at “The Solar Project 2010 Finale Concert”, which spent time remembering the victims of the Philippine hostage-taking tragedy and taking up donations for their families, reaching out to young people with its anti-drugs message, and rallying support for the Asian Games. In this way, the organizers hoped to foster in the younger generations a wholesome, positive outlook as well as to reaffirm the value of a motivated, purposeful life.
