Hong Kong’s News Media Celebrate 63rd National Day

The 63rd National Day Cocktail Reception for Hong Kong’s news media was held on September. Mr. Zhang Guo Liang, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Organizing Committee, said in his welcome speech that Hong Kong’s media have always been faithful chroniclers of popular opinion. The election of Mr. C.Y. Leung as Chief Executive is a clear popular mandate for a government that gets things done and is committed to Hong Kong’s continuous development. The cocktail reception provided an excellent opportunity for members of the press to socialize and fraternize.

Mr. Zhang Guo Liang pointed out that this is a very significant year for both Hong Kong and China. In Hong Kong, a new Chief Executive has been voted into office and a new Legislative Council assembled. Nationally, the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China is set to draw up a new long-term developmental and strategic blueprint for the country. The new leadership, he believed, will usher in a new era of vitality and opportunity.

The event’s organizers also took the opportunity to present the representatives of the sponsoring organizations with commemorative certificates as tokens of appreciation for their support.
