Now in its 15th year, the Top Ten SAR Government Policy Initiatives was launched in 1998. From a single-media, single-organizer event, it has grown to become a large-scale public opinion poll. In addition to the organizers, this year’s event also drew the participation of 63 supporting organizations and over 100 universities and secondary schools. Through the years, The Top Ten SAR Government Policy Initiatives has developed into one of the more objective, trusted thermometers of public sentiments regarding the government’s policy-making efficacy.

In his speech, Mr. Wang Shu Cheng, President of Wen Wei Po Daily News and Chairman of Wen Wei Po Co. Ltd., said that this year’s polling results showed a clear bias towards policy headlines that are related to economic well-being, education and underprivileged groups, flagging these topics as the ones that most preoccupied the public consciousness. The responses also threw into sharp relief the SAR government’s approach of tailoring policy solutions to changing times.
