TV WORLD 2013 Opening Reception
and International Forum

The Opening Reception and International Forum of TV WORLD 2013, one of the marquee events of the Hong Kong International Film & TV Market (FILMART), was held on March 19 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre.

In his welcome speech, Mr. Tsui Siu Ming, President of the Hong Kong Televisioners Association, said that TV WORLD is held in March each year to provide TV practitioners with a platform for sharing ideas, as well as opportunities for exchange and collaboration between the TV industries of different countries and regions.

Mr. Raymond Yip, Assistant Executive Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, said that FILMART, now in its 17th year, is the second largest event of its kind in the world, while TV WORLD, one of the highlights of FILMART, and has long benefited from the support of TV communities far and wide.

As a member of the TV WORLD Consultative Committee, Mr. Kit Szeto, Director & CEO of Dim Sum TV, was invited to the event as one of the guests of honour performing the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The International Forum began after the opening ceremony. This year’s theme was TV Programming and the Synergy with New Media. Hosted by Mr. Peter Lam, Vice-President of the Hong Kong Televisioners Association, the event brought together 4 leading TV practitioners from the mainland, Hong Kong, the U.S. and Korea respectively for an insightful discussion of trends and ideas.

Ms. Vicky Zhang, CEO of Art-cloud Times Film and Media Advertise net Co., Ltd., said that the emergence of mini-movies has added new dimensions to traditional TV, and expressed her hope that the two media will coalesce more seamlessly in the future.

Mr. Ho Lai Chuen, Executive Vice-President & General Manager (Production) of PCCW Media Ltd., pointed out that the integration of TV programming and new media is an irreversible trend, and PCCW has long been using its new platform advantage and interactive capabilities to promote new content.

Mr. Ahn Taeg Ho, Managing Director of Future Strategy, Munhwa Broadcasting (MBC), said that the constantly evolving consumption habits of TV audiences have nurtured a new generation of consumers who favor free, convenient and short-duration content.

Mr. Ben Mendelson, President of Interactive Television Alliance (ITA) Corporation, offered the observation that technological advances have made it possible for audiences to consume TV content through an ever-multiplying number of new devices, a phenomenon which in turn has generated many new business opportunities.
