Youths On Both Sides Of The Strait Celebrate Chinese Cultural Heritage Through The Written Word

To promote youth cultural exchange between four locations on both sides as well as foster a greater Chinese cultural awareness and resonance, Wen Wei Po Daily News of Hong Kong, the Future Star Federation Of Students and the Association of Chinese Culture of Hong Kong recently organized the Know Chinese Culture – Cross-Strait Young Growth Symposium. Dim Sum TV was among the more than 30 educational, cultural, academic, youth and media organizations that took part as supporting organizations. Over 100 youths from mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau took part in the Chinese Cultural Inheritance And Youth Development essay writing competition. The award ceremony was held on April 20.

Awards were given to a total of 31 essays after a rigorous judging process. The judging panel also selected one entry from each of the 4 participating locations as Best Essay, while the other 27 received Merit Awards.

The Best Essay Award went to Chan Ka Chun from Hong Kong, Li Ya Jun from Shanghai, Wang Xiao from Macau and Chen Chang Rui from Taiwan.

Chan Ka Chun, the only secondary school student among the four, was elated by his win. Sharing his thoughts on the submissions, Dr. Au Chi Kin, Assistant Professor, Department of History, Hong Kong Shue Yan University, said that the far-ranging essays encompassed morals, ethics, history, civilization and more, without sacrificing balance and modern-day relevance.
