The Hong Kong business community hosted the “Reception in Celebration of The 64th Anniversary of The Founding of The People’s Republic of China” on September 12 at the Island Shangri-La Hotel. Over 500 guests were on hand to raise a toast to a great future for China as well as the stability and prosperity of Hong Kong. Mr. Kit Szeto, Director & CEO of Dim Sum TV, was invited to the event.

Also at the cocktail reception were Mr. Leung Chun Ying, Chief Executive of the HKSAR; Mr. Yang Jian, Deputy Director-General of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR; Mr. Li Yuanming, Vice Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ms. Jiang Yu, Vice Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Mr. Chen Weizhan, Deputy Commander of the People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison; Ms. Carrie Lam, Chief Secretary for Administration of the HKSAR; Mr. John Tsang, Financial Secretary of the HKSAR; Mr. Rimsky Yue, Secretary for Justice of the HKSAR. They were joined by a number of foreign diplomatic personnel and other guests at the event.

Dr. Charles Yeung, Chairman of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC) and Executive Chairman of the National Day Celebrations Preparatory Committee, said in his welcome speech that China’s continued development is the foundation for Hong Kong’s prosperity, and the industrial and commercial sectors have always been the driving force behind Hong Kong’s economic growth. With the enshrining of the development of a modern service industry as a national economic priority by the 18th People’s Congress, and the central government’s active implementation of free trade between the mainland’s and Hong Kong’s service industries, Hong Kong’s economic prospects will receive another major boost. The signing of the 10th CEPA Supplementary Agreement will facilitate the forging of increasingly close cross-border economic ties, and create excellent opportunities for the city’s business community to play a key role in the future development of both the mainland and Hong Kong.
