3rd Hong Kong Student China’s National Knowledge Contest Fosters Budding Sinophiles

The finals and award presentation ceremony of the 3rd Hong Kong Student China’s National Knowledge Contest, jointly organized by the Education Bureau of the HKSAR, Wen Wei Po and Future Star of Hong Kong, was held on December 14. Ms. Ceci Chuang, Vice President of Dim Sum TV, attended the event as the representative of one of the event’s co-organizers and an award presenter.

This was the second time Dim Sum TV, long a supporter of youth educational activities, was involved in the Hong Kong Student China’s National Knowledge Contest as a co-organizer. This year’s event attracted more than 100 teams as well as over 3,000 individual contestants, while its webpage logged over 300,000 hits, galvanizing interest in Chinese learning and making it a trending topic. The award presentation ceremony was attended by Mr. Eddie Ng Hak-kim, Secretary for Education for the HKSAR, and Mr. Wang Shucheng, President of Wen Wei Po.

The group and individual winners in the university, secondary school and primary school divisions were finally crowned after more than a month of competition. Many contestants and judges were vocal in their support for the event, saying it helped promote a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and history.

The finals were fiercely contested and drew a stellar performance from all the contestants. The buzzer round, in particular, proved to be a cliffhanger, with the contestants eliciting rounds of applause from the audience with their sharp, quick-fire responses. The 3 divisions in the team competition were won by Hong Kong Shue Yan University, Sing Yin Secondary School and Taoist Ching Chung Primary School. In the individual competition, two brothers stole the show, with Cheng Chi Sing topping the secondary school division and his younger brother, Cheng Chi Hang, clinching second place in the primary school division.
