2013 International Chinese Media Awards Pay Tribute to the Best of Chinese Culture

The award ceremony for the 2013 International Chinese Media Awards, jointly organized by the Overseas Chinese Media Cooperation Organization and Wen Wei Po of Hong Kong, was held on December 30 in Shenzhen. For the event, 10 winners in each of 4 categories - “Brilliant Chinese”, “Brilliant Chinese Enterprises”, “Top Ten Charming Cities of China” and “Top Ten Charming Towns of China” – were selected by the jury. As a member of the Overseas Chinese Media Cooperation Organization, Dim Sum TV was represented at the ceremony by its Vice President, Ms. Ceci Chuang.

Dim Sum TV program hosts Jose and Yan were the emcees at the ceremony. Mr. Zhang Zhigan, Executive Deputy Director of the Information Office of the People’s Government of Guangdong Province, Mr. Deng Hong, Deputy Director of the Information Office of the People’s Government of Guangdong Province, as well as the chiefs of 10 Chinese media organizations in the U.K., Greece, Malaysia. Thailand, the Philippines, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and other locations were also on hand to present the awards to the winning individuals, enterprises, cities and towns.

Founded in 2009, the Overseas Chinese Media Cooperation Organization now boasts a membership of 81 Chinese-language newspapers, magazines, TV stations, radio stations and websites from all 5 continents, with a combined influence that spans all sizable overseas Chinese communities. The 2013 International Chinese Media Awards were a continuation of the event launched by the organization last year. The judging took place over 3 months, with the 81 member media choosing the final honorees by vote based on extensive popular feedback from their respective home audiences.

According to Mr. Wang Shucheng, Chairman of Wen Wei Po, the purpose of this worldwide poll is to pay tribute to the individuals and enterprises from different fields of endeavor that have made outstanding contributions to the raising of the international profile of Chinese people and the amplifying of Chinese influence abroad. At the same time, it recognizes the Chinese cities and towns that are best-loved and most favored by overseas Chinese worldwide as travel and investment destinations.

At this year’s event, Ang Lee, Lin Dan, Fong Yun Wah, Chen Guangbiao, Li Yanhong, Xu Jiayin, Han Guolong, Yang Meixue, Lang Lang and Li Wenbo received the honour of Brilliant Chinese; Lenovo Group, XCMG, Hutchison Whampoa Limited, Yunnan Baiyao Group, JDB Group, Country Garden Holdings Company Limited, Brilliance Auto Group, Luo Lih-fen Group, Bai Sha Xi Tea Corp., together with Hunan Kangyida Oil Camellia Biological Technology Company Limited received the honour of Brilliant Chinese Enterprises; Dunhuang Gansu, Yunnan pu`er, Wulingyuan Hunan, Kunshan Jiangsu, Shuangcheng Heilongjiang, Dujiangyan Sichuan, Yongjia Zhejiang, Changping Beijing, Pingyao Shanxi and Kaiping Guangdong were selected as Top Ten Charming Cities of China; while Lijiang Yunnan, Fenghuang Hunan , Wuzhen Zhejiang, Yangshe Jiangsu, Lukang Taiwan, Yangshuo Guangxi, Yangliuqing Tianjin, Wuyuan Jiangxi, Qingxi Guangdong and Cheung Chau Hong Kong were selected as Top Ten Charming Towns of China.
