2013 Business Community’s Hong Kong Top Ten Current Events Poll Enables New Business-Media Interface

The award presentation ceremony for the 2013 Business Community’s Hong Kong Top Ten Current Events poll was held on January 20 at the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Hong Kong. With Chinese New Year drawing close, over 200 political and business luminaries gathered together in a festive atmosphere to review the past year’s social issues, market environment and public policies, while looking forward to an even more spirited response from Hong Kong to the next round of challenges and opportunities.

Among the dignitaries at the ceremony were guests of honour Mr. Tsang Chun Wah, Financial Secretary of the HKSAR, Mr. Yang Jian, Deputy Minister of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR, Mr. Tsang Yok Sing, Chairman of the Legislative Council, Dr. Chan You Hing, Vice Chairman of the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese.

Of the Top Ten News Stories, three - “3D Stamp Duty Implemented As Emphatic Response To Property Speculation”, “Amended Plan For Northeast New Territories Development Introduced”, “Long–Term Housing Strategy Sets 10-year Construction Target” – were related to the property market, a clear indication of the widespread interest and attention generated by property prices and housing policies. The top 3 vote-getters were: “3D Stamp Duty Implemented As Emphatic Response To Property Speculation”, “Eight Chambers Of Commerce Sign Declaration To Oppose Economically Harmful Occupy Central Protest”, “3rd Plenary Session Marks New Milestone In China’s Reform Era”.
