The 6th Hong Kong Student China’s National Knowledge Contest Competition Rounded Off Successfully

On the afternoon of December 17, the 6th Hong Kong Student China’s National Knowledge Contest Finals cum Awards Ceremony were held at the Hong Kong Science Park. As the largest national knowledge competition in Hong Kong, it has attracted 206 teams from Hong Kong’s tertiary, secondary and primary institutions, as well as social organizations. This has broken the record of the number of participating teams in history.

There is a mascot “Hong Meow” (Panda) at this year’s event. The committee explained that other than its adorable appearance, panda is the national treasure of China, thus the designer has used it to symbolize the preservation and inheritance of traditional Chinese culture.

Over the past five years, "Hong Kong Student China’s National Knowledge Contest" has attracted participation from more than 300 primary and secondary schools, universities and post-secondary institutions, as well as over 300,000 views on the event website, establishing an important platform that promotes the understanding and importance of Chinese history and culture.

Gathering together in neat uniforms, students from various schools showed great teamwork, positive attitude and quick reflexes when responding to the hosts’ questions during the finals. This has earned them applauses from the judges and audiences.

After the exciting and intense finals was the exhilarating award ceremony. Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim, Secretary for Education of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government delivered a speech, saying that "Hong Kong Student China’s National Knowledge Contest" has raised Hong Kong students’ interests and understanding of the history and culture of their motherland. This helped instill in Hong Kong youth a deeper sense of mission and responsibility to carry out more important tasks in the future development of Hong Kong and China.

Among the group competitions, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Sing Yin Secondary School and PLK Stanley Ho Sau Nan Primary School were the champions in the tertiary, secondary and primary sectors respectively. Liang Xing from Sing Yin Secondary School,claimed that the event has enabled him to appreciate the beauty of ancient Chinese poetry and he hopes to further his studies in Chinese literature and the profound culture of Chinese poetry during.

As one of the media representatives, Dim Sum TV has always supported activities that promote Chinese cultural heritage. Ms. Ceci Chuang, Vice President of Dim Sum TV, cheered for the award-winning students at the awards ceremony.
