2017 RTHK’s Year of Rooster celebrations

On February 6th 2017, also the tenth day of Chinese Lunar New Year, representatives from Hong Kong’s major electronic media organizations and media industry gathered at Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK)’s New Year Celebration to give their blessing to Hong Kong’s broadcasting business and wish for a flourishing Year of Rooster. Mr. Kit Szeto, Director & CEO of Dim Sum TV, and Ms. Ceci Chuang, Vice President of Dim Sum TV, were invited to the event and the toasting ceremony.

As one of the media representatives, Mr Szeto was first to deliver the speech and he wished all the guests well and blessed in the New Year. Mr Szeto anticipated that although traditional television industry are encountering unprecedented challenges as the ways users consume entertainment and content become more diversified, audiences would still be interested in appealing programs. Mr. Szeto looked forward to together the media community strive to produce more and better programmes in the year ahead.

Mr Gregory SO Kam-leung, Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development, summarized some of RTHK’s achievements in the television service and program production in the past year. He hoped that Hong Kong and Taiwan can open up more platforms in the future to broaden the public channels for audiences to enjoy various programs in this cross-media era.

Mr Gregory SO Kam-leung co-hosted a “wishing well” ceremony with Mr LEUNG Ka-wing, Director of Broadcasting, by touching the auspicious golden chicken electronic board. An elegant Chinese calligraphy “peace of mind leads to joy” by renowned master Professor Jao Tsung-I was revealed to bless Hong Kong citizens with peace and happiness. Mr So carried on with the eye-dotting ceremony, symbolizing the broadcasting industry to take on lion-like spirits and continue to thrive over the coming year.

To celebrate this joyous Lunar New Year, a huge golden egg was placed at the centre of the stage. Dressed up in adorable chick outfits, children performers who jazzed up the festive spirits with the transparent lion dance which reflected a combination of the traditional lion dance with modernistic elements and creativity. Mainland singer Li Xia’s “Quick and joyful costume change” performance in combining magic tricks together with singing and dancing left audiences stunned with a flurry of applauses .
