Press Conference of the 29th World Hakka Conference

The press conference of the 29th World Hakka Conference (aka W.H.C.) was held on 11th of September at Hong Kong Mei Zhou Association. Mr. Yu Pang Chun, the Co-Chairman of W.H.C. and Chairman of the Hong Kong Mei Zhou Association, Mr. Lam Kwong Yu, Co-Chairman of W.H.C. and Chairman of the Hong Kong Mei Zhou Association Consultation Committee, Mr. Wang Chun Fai, Secretary General of W.H.C. and Co-Vice Chairman of Hong Kong Mei Zhou Association, Mr. Andrew Yu Wai Kit, the Planning Officer of World Hakka Youth Summit, Dr. Mui Kwong Chiu, the famous composer; Dr. Fanny M. Cheung, the Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies Assistant Director of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and representatives of the media and the working committee of W.H.C. attended the event.

At the press conference, Mr. Yu Pang Chun, the Co-Chairman of W.H.C. and Chairman of the Hong Kong Mei Zhou Association, introduced the background of W.H.C. and the event details while Mr Lam Kwong Yu, the Chairman of the Hong Kong Mei Zhou Association Consultation Committee, made a detailed introduction to the activities of W.H.C., and arranged for the reputable musicians to play the original piece “A thousand sails to welcome W.H.C.” on erhu and guzheng. As one of supporting media groups, Dim Sum TV is privileged to be involved in this event.

The World Hakka Conference will be held in Hong Kong from 12th to 15th of October 2017 in Hong Kong, with about 3,000 Hakkas from the United States, Canada, Britain, mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and other 24 countries gathering in Hong Kong to join the festivities. Mr. Leung Chun Ying, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC, Mrs. Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR, Mr. Zhang Xiaoming, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central Government in Hong Kong, will attend the opening ceremony. Vice Chairman Mr. Leung Chun Ying will deliver a keynote speech at the opening ceremony.

With China Overseas Exchange Association, All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, Home Affairs Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong SAR, Community Relations Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, Mei Zhou Municipal People’s Government, Guangdong Overseas Friendship Association and Fujian Overseas Friendship Association as the supporting organizations, the 29th World Hakka Conference will be held by Hong Kong Mei Zhou Association. Mr. Ye Xuanping, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, Mr. Tung Chee Hwa, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, Mr. Leung Chun Ying, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, Mrs. Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR and Mr. Zhang Xiaoming, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central Government in Hong Kong are Honorary Sponsors, and Mr. Lau Kong Wah, the Secretary for Home Affairs is the Honorary Advisor.

2017 marks the 20th anniversary of the return of Hong Kong to motherland. It is especially meaningful that the World Hakka Conference will be held at the birthplace of Hong Kong after 46 years since its establishment. It will also be its first international event held in Hong Kong after Hong Kong’s return to the motherland, symbolizing a “double return”. The Preparatory Committee also hopes to showcase the spirit of hospitality in Hong Kong through this event, which will allow guests to experience the prosperity and excitement of “horse racing will continue and dancing parties will go on.”

The various activities of the 29th World Hakka Conference include the opening ceremony, "Sailing Out Over the Sea" multi-media show, Hakka Cup Horse Racing, Hakka Cultural Forum and World Hakka Youth Summit. W.H.C. hopes to unite the global Hakkas through this international event after 46 years since its establishment in Hong Kong with its theme “Unite the global Hakka to sail forward”.
