The women of Commercial and Industrial circles’ National Day Preparatory Committee held a "lunch reception in celebration of the 68th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China" on 12th of September at the Hong Kong Island Harbor Plaza Hotel. Mr. Chou Hong, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central Government in Hong Kong, Ms. Elsie Leung, Deputy Director of the Basic Law Committee of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the PRC, Mr. Bernard Chan, Deputy Director of the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau of the HKSAR Government, Mr. Chen Fengying, Deputy Director of the Central Government in Hong Kong Liaison Office and Mr. Ren Hongyan, the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Deputy director of the political research department were invited as officiating guests. Both Ms. Elsie Leung and Mr. Bernard Chan were guest speakers who shared their views on the opportunities brought about by “One belt one road” initiative and the prospects for Hong Kong’s economic and trade development.

Ms. Elsie Leung stressed that "one belt one road" not only involves economic benefits, but is relevant to the political, diplomatic, cultural and other areas. Hong Kong should interweave its own destiny to the fate of the country by leveraging on its unique advantages, grasping “one belt one road” and "Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay Area" opportunities to complement the development of the country’s economy, improve people’s livelihood and contribute to world peace.

In his speech, Mr. Bernard Chan expressed that Hong Kong has a unique advantage in professional services such as finance, accounting, law, engineering and operations management. This will help establish a two-way platform linking Hong Kong to the Mainland and the region along the development course. The SAR Government will play the role of "conductor", on the one hand strengthen cooperation with relevant departments of the Mainland in the "one belt one road" initiative, and at the same time encourage the mainland and Hong Kong enterprises "to team up the ships for sail" to unravel the huge business opportunities the initiative brings about.
