Hong Kong Press reception in celebration of the 68th National Day Anniversary

The Hong Kong press group hosted a cocktail reception in celebration of the 68th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China in the afternoon of 29th of September at JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong. Mrs. Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of the HKSAR, Mr. Wang Zhimin, Director of the Central Government Liaison Office in Hong Kong, Mr. Xie Feng, Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong, Mr. Yang Jian, Deputy Director of the Central Government Liaison Office in Hong Kong, members from the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee, National People’s Congress and The Legislative Council, and over 400 elite representatives from the media groups and the community attended the commemorative reception ceremony.

Mr. Zhang Guoliang, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the National Day Preparatory Committee, Mrs. Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of the HKSAR, Mr. Wang Zhimin, Director of the Liaison Office all delivered speeches and wished the motherland prosperity and a better future for Hong Kong.

Mr. Zhang Guoliang pointed out the fact that both the new Chief Executive and the new Director of the Liaison Office made their debut at this press reception fully reflected the SAR Government and the Liaison Office’s attention to the Hong Kong press, and also showed the expectations and hope on the press from the Hong Kong community. He hoped that Hong Kong could grasp the opportunities from the revival of the Chinese nation and create bright future.

Mrs Carrie Lam, The Chief Executive of the HKSAR, expressed that she was proud of the impressive achievements of the country over the past 68 years. Hong Kong is an inseparable part of China, and the country has been supporting Hong Kong’s development since the reunification of Hong Kong for two decades. With the strong support of the country, she was confident that Hong Kong would continue to play a unique role in "one country, two systems" and inject new impetus into the economy for the well-being of the public.

She also hoped that the journalists here would continue to maintain a professional code of conduct and provide the public with realistic, objective and comprehensive news coverage to promote social development in Hong Kong.

In his speech, Mr. Wang Zhimin, Director of the Liaison Office, shared his previous experience of working in Hong Kong three times. He said that these experiences have left him with profound feelings and fond memories of the idea "If Hong Kong is good, the country is good; if the country is good, Hong Kong becomes better". He believed that the Hong Kong community would certainly be able to grasp the needs of the country in relation to the advantages of this city, and create glorious future.
