The Asia Leaders Roundtable Forum for the development of the Hong Kong and Macau Greater Bay Areas

China Daily hosted the China Daily Asia Leadership Roundtable Luncheon titled " Guangdong-HK-Macao Greater Bay Area from the Belt & Road Perspective: Opportunities and Challenges” on 9th October, 2017 at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong. The forum was hosted by Mr. Zhou Li, Editorial Board Member, China Daily Group; Publisher, China Daily Asia Pacific. Mr. Zhou Shuchun, Publisher & Editor-in-Chief, China Daily Group, made welcoming remarks while Mrs. Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of the HKSAR, delivered the keynote speech.

Mrs. Carrie Lam stressed the importance of innovation and technology in her speech. She pointed out that innovation and technology would be the priority of the future work of the SAR Government. Hong Kong and the Mainland would liaise more closely, and the Hong Kong and Macau Bay Area would be built into an international hub, contributing to the Belt & Road Initiative.

Subsequently, five leaders from the political and business communities had a dynamic discussion on the topic, with more than 300 delegates having interactive Question and Answer session on the prospects of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay areas.

Since its introduction, the Belt & Road initiative was widely concerned and appreciated by the Hong Kong community and had been implemented as an effective practical action. As a joint in the Belt & Road initiative, the advantages of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area development were revealed. This forum focussed on exploring how Hong Kong would play its own characteristics, the advantages of "one country, two systems" and build a large-scale industry with developed, powerful, open and regional synergies together with the Pearl River Delta. Along with further cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, the opportunities and challenges during the process of development would be discussed.

China Daily Asia Leaders Roundtable aimed to build a high-end dialogue and exchange platform involving political, business, academic leaders and social elites from Asia, countries and regions, focusing on the strategic issues of economic, commercial, industrial and social development of the Asian region. So far it had been held for more than 50th times in Hong Kong, Macao and Asia countries, with more than 20,000 decision-making elites participating..

Mr. Kit Szeto, CEO & President of Dim Sum TV, was also invited to participate in the Asia Leaders Roundtable Forum to discuss the construction and development of the Greater Hong Kong-Macau Bay Area with the guests.
