Around 20 Consul Generals in Hong Kong joined together to officiate the opening ceremony of CGCC Belt & Road Fest on 1 December 2017

To raise public awareness of the culture and customs of different areas within the Belt and Road Initiative, CGCC held Belt & Road Fest from 1st to the 3rd of December 2017 at Chater Garden in Central. Festive food from different cultures were gathered in the Fest for public tasting. Also, music and dance performances, interactive games and workshops were presented throughout the event.

Mr. Edward Yau, Hong Kong SAR Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr. Yang Yirui, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC in HK, Mr. Alan Peter S. Cayetano, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, 20 countries Consul Generals in Hong Kong, Mr. Guo Heng Bin, Deputy Director-General of Coordination Department of Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, Mrs. Rita Fan Hsu Lai-tai, Sitting NPC Standing Committee member, Mrs. Susanne Wong Ho Wing-sze, District Officer (Central and Western), Home Affairs, accompanied by Chairman of CGCC, Mr. Jonathan Choi, and Senior officials from the HKSAR Government attended as the officiating guests to launch the event.

Mr. Jonathan Choi, Chairman of CGCC stated in his speech that the Belt & Road initiative is not only a platform for enhancing co-operation in areas such as tourism, culture, education, economic and trade facilitation, but also about the connection of people along the Belt. Belt & Road is closely related to everyone, and hope that this Fest can offer a good opportunity to get to know more about the culture and traditions along the Belt. He also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to several government departments, organizations and relevant parties, as well as many Consuls-General in Hong Kong for their strong support in making this event a great success.

Around 40 exhibition booths were set up to promote or sell various featured food, unique products and handcrafts. Participants can taste blended coffee around Vietnam, Indonesia, Yunnan and Saudi Arabia and delicious food from Germany, Myanmar, South Africa and Pakistan. Moreover, korean hanwoo and snacks, Malaysian Musang King durian, Cheung Chau mega fish ball, local milk tea are widely welcomed by participants. Tourist information about culture, handcrafts and lifestyle of Philippines, Brunei and Iran were also present in the event.
