Hong Kong Press Celebrates the 69th Anniversary of National Day

On the afternoon of September 21, 2018, the Hong Kong Press celebrated the 69th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China at the JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong. Mrs. Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of the HKSAR; Mr. Yang Jian, the Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR; Mr. Song Ru’an, Deputy Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Office in the HKSAR; Mr. Chen Yading, the Deputy Political Commissar of the People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison, and Mr. Jiang Zaizhong, Chairman of the Hong Kong Press Celebrating the National Day Preparatory Committee, were invited to be the officiating guests. The Hong Kong Press Association and the elite representatives of the Hong Kong Media Agency attended the event.

Chief Executive Mrs. Carrie Lam, said in her speech that the achievements of the Country in the past sixty-nine years are obvious. Hong Kong is not only a "contributor" but also a "beneficiary" in the Country’s Reform and Opening up. Hong Kong shall take advantage of its ability to develop innovative technologies and contribute to the Country’s implementation of inn ovation-driven development strategies and the building of emerging countries. She stressed the importance of providing real, objective and comprehensive news to the public, which is a vital force for the progress and development of Hong Kong as a society. She also stressed the importance of conveying positive news to the public. Mrs. Lam also welcomes friends from the Press to continue to make fair comments and criticisms on the work of the SAR government, so that the government’s work is constantly improving and making progress.

Mr. Jiang Zaizhong, Chairman of the Hong Kong Press Celebrating the National Day Preparatory Committee said in his speech that every journalist should put the rise and fall, success and failure, as well as the safety of the Country and Hong Kong in his heart. At present, the transformation of Hong Kong society is accelerating, and the external environment is increasingly intensifying. The two factors are intertwined, resulting in an unprecedented and diverse paradox. For Hong Kong media, it is more difficult than ever to expand the mainstream of public opinion and to gather strength and boost development.

Mr Kit Szeto, Director and CEO of Dim Sum TV, was invited to participate in this mega event to celebrate the 69th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China with friends from the Press.
