Variety Show for the Celebration of the 69th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China was held on October 1st at the Hong Kong Coliseum. Mrs. Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of the HKSAR; Mr. Wang Zhimin, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Hong Kong; Mr. Xie Feng, Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the HKSAR; Mr. Tan Benhong, Commander of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison; Mr. Tung Chee-hwa, Executive Chairman of the Preparatory Committee; Mr. Leung Chun-ying and Mr. Tam Yiu-chung, Chairman of the Preparatory Committee; Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, Chief Secretary for Administration; Mr. Paul Chan Mo-po, Financial Secretary of Hong Kong and Mr. Tan Tieniu, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Hong Kong attended the variety show.

Executive Chairman of the Preparatory Committee, Mr Tung Chee-hwa, said in his speech, that with the official opening to traffic of the Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link, and the upcoming opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge as well as the continuous construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Bay Area, Hong Kong’s connection with the country is getting closer. Hong Kong’s economy and its people’s livelihood are progressing in a fruitful and orderly manner. The fortieth anniversary of the Country’s Reform and Opening-up is of great significance to Hong Kong. As the Country’s development enters a new stage, Hong Kong will surely find its new position and renew its vitality.

Guard of Honour from the Army, Navy and Air Force of Chinese People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison, and Military Band of Chinese People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison played the national anthem to kick off the variety show.

The variety show consists of eight performances, namely with "Majestic Melodies", "Southern Classics", “Northern Duo", "Dynamic Magnificence”, “Rosy Future”, “Civilized Force”, “Ode to Prosperity”, and “Our Beloved Home”, which lasted for 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Singer Janice Yan debuted the show, together with the Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra, brought the songs "For your Eyes Only" and "Struggle" to the audience.

The famous Nanyin singer Lee Yuk Wah led a group of musicians to bring the classical and beautiful Southern Chinese melody to the audience in the "Southern Classics" session.

Zhang Han and Gu Yichao’s performance of the North Allegro "Northern Duo" is a fast-paced show, bringing up the atmosphere.

The Dance Drama Hong Kong Ltd. has turned the famous Chinese painting "Along the River during the Qingming Festival" into an amazing dance performance, bringing the embankments, markets and arch bridges to life on the stage.

The Art Troupe of Chinese People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison brought in martial arts, male soldiers and female soldiers performances, so that the audience can experience the majestic momentum of the Art Troupe.

Hong Kong singers Eric Suen and Elisa Chan performed many songs to the audience and set off the highlight of the evening.

At the end of the show, the Tuen Mun Children Choir performed "Our Beloved Home" together with the guests to make a perfect ending for the evening.
