Dim Sum TV supports annual event,
“The Top Ten SAR Government Policy
Initiatives of 2008”

The awards for “The Top Ten SAR Government Policy Initiatives of 2008” were presented in a ceremony held on February 12, 2009. The event was jointly supported by twenty-four Hong Kong media organizations, and nearly one hundred and thirty thousand people voted for the top ten government policy initiatives. The awards were intended to give Hong Kong people a chance to air their views on the government’s policy priorities. And from their selections, it’s clear which issues are important to the Hong Kong population: eight of the top ten policy initiatives were related to economic and livelihood issues. The people of Hong Kong want the government to focus on weathering the financial tsunami as their top priority. Also of high priority is the need to stabilize the financial sector, support small- and medium-size businesses, and reduce unemployment.

Dim Sum TV was one of the media groups supporting the event, and Director and CEO Mr. Kit Szeto participated in the event as a presenter.

Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr. Henry Tang, delivered a keynote speech at the event about the survey results. He said that the results clearly show that while the government must take whatever steps it can to resolve the immediate financial crisis, they must also keep an eye on the long-term development and overall interests of the community regarding the major issues that are important to them. He said that it is a big challenge to achieve our goals while we are working so hard to protect our livelihood at the same time.

Among the top ten initiatives, “Emergency legislation on preventing melamine–tainted food from entering Hong Kong” took the top slot with 66,553 votes. Second place was “Hong Kong’s successful hosting of the Beijing Olympic Games equestrian competition,” while third place was “The SAR Government’s measures to address the financial tsunami.”
