Prime time coverage of the ‘Saluting the Flag’ and
‘Youth of China’ National Day celebrations
Dim Sum TV presenter in the spotlight in Hong Kong
broadcasting event

On October 3, the Committee of the Hong Kong Youth Alliance for the 60th National Day Celebrations concluded this year’s National Day festivities with three large-scale events: ‘Saluting the Flag’, ‘Parade of the Flag’, and the ‘Youth of China’ evening gala. The programme attracted a turnout of over 10,000 Hong Kong youths. The events were organized by the Committee of the Hong Kong Youth Alliance for the 60th National Day Celebrations, with the Home Affairs Bureau of the HKSAR as joint organizer, and Radio Television Hong Kong and Southern Media Corporation as participating organizers. Present at the festivities was the president of Southern Media Corporation, Mr. Zhang Huijian. Also invited to attend was Mr. Kit Szeto, Director & Chief Executive Officer of Dim Sum TV, one of the events’ supporting media.

The march got under way at 2p.m. with the opening ‘Saluting the Flag’ ceremony at West Kowloon’s D District. The highlight of the ceremony was the unfurling of the world’s largest Chinese national flag, measuring 89m x 60m and weighing 510kg, which had been specially flown in from Beijing for the occasion. Acting as flag-bearers were 60 participants representing a wide cross section of Hong Kong life. Mr. Kit Szeto, as head of one of the supporting media, was also invited to do the honors.

After saluting the giant national flag, the 60 flag-bearers started the parade down Canton Road at 2:45p.m. At the head of the procession was the lead car, followed by a special convoy of vintage convertibles and over 10,000 young marchers. The cavalcade ended at the Hong Kong Coliseum.

Mr. Kit Szeto and Mrs. Szeto were also in the audience at the ‘Youth of China’ evening gala at the Hong Kong Coliseum. Hosting this major Hong Kong broadcasting event was Dim Sum TV presenter Miao Yiting, who was joined by co-hosts Candy Chea of RTHK, Jin Ling of Phoenix Television and Davis Ren of Guangdong Television. ‘Saluting the Flag’ and ‘Youth of China’ was aired on Dim Sum TV at 8p.m. on October 4.
