Ms. Lei pointed out that Guangdong and Hong Kong share the same cultural roots and a long history of cultural exchange. Since the beginning of China’s reform era, cultural exchange between the two places in broadcasting, film and television, and publishing has been steadily gaining momentum. Within the context of cultural cooperation, the two neighbours can complement each other’s competitive advantages and pool their resources. With its international market, Hong Kong can serve as a window to the world for Guangdong’s cultural industries and facilitate the export of its cultural product. Ms. Lei also believed that the delegation’s visit to Guangzhou will have a strong, positive impact on future bilateral cooperation and exchange.

Dr. Choi said that, as a patriotic organization, the CGCC carries the responsibility to promote Chinese culture. In recent years, the CGCC has been a driving force behind the merging of cultural industries and the arts. Hong Kong has a strong foundation and talent pool in film, television, animation, architecture and design, as well as the advantage of being an international financial center; as such, it can play a key role in raising capital for cultural enterprises. At the same time, the market potential offered by Guangdong and the rest of the country means collaboration between Guangdong’s and Hong Kong’s creative industries can be a win-win proposition.

Mr. Kit Szeto pointed out that the members of the cultural delegation represented different cultural and creative industries, including film and television, animation, publishing and others. All of them were keen to gain an understanding of Guangdong’s development as well as the potential opportunities, and make a contribution to the promotion of Chinese culture. He expressed his hope that the cultural industries on both sides of the border would explore different modes of cooperation, and step up efforts in information exchange to help resources matching and compatibility. By making use of each other’s competitive advantages, Guangdong and Hong Kong would be able to a forge mutually beneficial partnership.

The delegation’s tour also included stops at Guangdong South New Media Inc., part of the Southern Media Corporation, Creative Power Entertaining Inc. and Redtory.
