Dim Sum TV Joins Radio Television Hong Kong’s
Chinese New Year Celebrations

On January 30, an unusually sunny 8th day of the Chinese New Year which had generally been beset with an overcast sky, representatives of twelve Hong Kong electronic media came together on Broadcast Drive to attend RTHK’s Lunar New Year Celebration for the Year of the Dragon. In addition to exchanging new year’s greetings, the participants also wished the burgeoning digital broadcasting industry a new level of success. Mr. Kit Szeto, Director & CEO of Dim Sum TV, was one of the guests invited to raise a toast at the event.

The organizers invited Mr. Gregory So, Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development, and Mr. Roy Tang, Director of Broadcasting, to perform the ceremony of daubing the blank eyes of the dragon head. The giant dragon head at this year’s celebrations was 21.5 ft. tall, 22 ft. long and 9 ft. wide, and had already been submitted to the Guinness World Records as the world’s largest dragon head. Daubing the dragon’s eyes symbolically brought it to life and heralded a new year when the broadcasting industry would soar to new heights.

With the launch of 5 new digital channels, this will be the year when digital broadcasting takes center stage. As digital technology matures and becomes mainstream, “the audience is king” is a sentiment that takes on new significance. At the event, Mr. Roy Tang disclosed plans for popularizing digital audio broadcasting and for facilitating public consultation on the “Community Participation in Broadcasting Services” pilot scheme. These plans were conceived with a view to ensuring a good match between the services provided and society’s needs and expectations.
