In his welcoming speech, Dr. Jonathan Choi, Chairman of the CGCC, said that global economic fluctuations impacted Hong Kong’s economy during the Year of the Rabbit. However, the tilting of the world’s economic balance towards the east, coupled with the ever-closer financial and economic ties between the mainland and Hong Kong, will serve to raise the latter’s long-term economic prospects.

As a result of the HKSAR government’s efforts to expedite joint Guangdong-Hong Kong and Shanghai-Hong Kong projects, Hong Kong’s further integration into the national economic development matrix is an inevitable and welcome trend. As Dr. Choi pointed out, helping to achieve economic synergy between Hong Kong and the mainland as well as the East Asian region, and bridging different economic agendas will be the focus of the CGCC’s work in the future.
