May 4 Flag-Raising Ceremony at
Golden Bauhinia Square
Also Raises Curtain
On Youth Alliance's 15th Reunification
Anniversary Celebrations

To mark the 93rd anniversary of the May Fourth Movement, the flag-raising ceremony of Hong Kong’s May 4 Youth Festival 2012 was held in the morning of May 4 at Golden Bauhinia Square in Wanchai. The ceremony was held in conjunction with the launch ceremony of the Hong Kong Youth Alliance Activity Series Celebrating the 15th Anniversary of Hong Kong’s Reunification with China. Organized by the Committee of the Hong Kong Youth Alliance, the event was attended by about 3,000 youth representatives. Mr. Kit Szeto, Director & CEO of Dim Sum TV, was invited to the flag-raising ceremony.

At 7am, the flag-raising ceremony got under way with the entrance of the honour guard, followed by the ceremonial guard, flag-bearers, flag escort and silver band. The members of these units were drawn from 12 youth uniformed youth organizations in Hong Kong. Mr.TSANG Chi Hung, Executive Chairman of the Committee, said in his opening speech that the Youth Alliance has organized a series of events not only to mark the 93rd anniversary of the May 4th Movement and the 15th anniversary of Hong Kong’s reunification with China, but also to provide young people with a retrospective of Hong Kong’s and China’s development in order to instill in them a sense of national pride and belonging.

The flag-raising ceremony was followed by the launch ceremony of the Hong Kong Youth Alliance Activity Series Celebrating the 15th Anniversary of Hong Kong’s Reunification with China. The ceremony included the premiere of the music video of Believe In Our Dream, a song specially created and performed by Alan Tam, Hacken Lee, Eason Chan, Hins Cheung, Eric Suen, Kary Ng, Kelvin Kwan and the group Mr. to mark the anniversary. The emcees for the ceremony were Frankie Tam of Dim Sum TV and Yingzi Xu of Hong Kong TV.

Among the guests who attended the ceremony were Mr. Wang Zhimin, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in HKSAR, Mr. Ambrose Lee Siu-kwong, Acting Chief Secretary, Mr. Jasper Tsang Yok-sing, President of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong, Mrs. Carrie Lam, Secretary for Development, Mr. Tsang Tak Sing, Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr. Raymond Young Lap-moon, Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, and Mrs. Cherry Tse Ling Kit-ching, Permanent Secretary for Education.
