Hong Kong Mobile Appsanity 2012 Competition
Launched To Encourage Creativity In
Times Of Economic Uncertainty

The launch ceremony for the Hong Kong Mobile Appsanity 2012 Competition, jointly organized by the Hong Kong Commercial, Industrial & Professional Association, the Hong Kong Cultural and Educational Exchange Association (Organizing Committee) and SINO Dynamic Solution Limited, was held on June 18 in the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre conference room. Mr. Kit Szeto, Director & CEO of Dim Sum TV, one of the supporting organizations, was at the event and took part in the ceremony.

In her speech, Mrs. Ng Chu Lien Fan, the event’s chairperson, said in that the competition is one of the activities in the event series celebrating the 15th anniversary of Hong Kong’s reunification with China. The competition aims at encouraging creativity and inspiring participants to pursue their career goals in times of economic uncertainty. With “Innovative Technology, Creative Thinking & Entrepreneurship” as its theme, and with the organizers providing a free technology platform (SDK), the competition is held to midwife innovative ideas for mobile app design and elevate professional app development standards in Hong Kong and abroad.

Ms. Florence Hui, Under-Secretary for Home Affairs, pointed out in her speech that the competition is as innovative as it is meaningful, providing as it does a platform for pooling and showcasing the best ideas from people interested in new technologies. Promoting “Innovative Technology, Creative Thinking & Entrepreneurship” in new media, the competition would help to create employment and diversify economic development.

Mr. Yu Ruwen, Deputy Director General of the Kowloon Sub-office of the Central Government’s Liaison Office, and Mr. Cao Guoying, Deputy Director General of the Education, Science and Technology Department, Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR were among the guests of honour at the ceremony. Supported by 10 organizations, including Tai Kung Pao, Wen Wei Po, ATV and Dim Sum TV, the event was also co-sponsored by over 40 other organizations.

Participants in the competition are required to upload their app creations between July 1 and September 30, 2012 to Apple’s App Store or Android Market for free public download. The event’s SDK system will record the number of users of each app. The developers of the first apps to reach a required number of users will be awarded cash prizes, trophies and certificates of participation.
