Mr. Kit Szeto Begins Second Consecutive Term as
Chairman of the Art and Culture Committee
of the CGCC at the Committee
Members Inaugural Ceremony

The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC) recently held two days of celebration to mark the inauguration of its new leadership. On November 29, a special banquet was hosted to welcome mainland delegations in Hong Kong to attend the new committee members inaugural ceremony. On November 30, the 48th Term Committee Members Inaugural Ceremony was held. Mr. Kit Szeto, Director & CEO of Dim Sum TV, and Member of the Standing Committee and Chairman of the Art and Culture Committee of the CGCC for a second consecutive term, was at both the ceremony and banquet.

The tenure of the members of the CGCC’s 48th Committee began in November. At the banquet, Dr. Charles Yeung, the new Chairman of the CGCC, welcomed the guests from the mainland on behalf of all the standing committee members, committee members and members. Mr. An Min, Vice-Chairman of the Subcommittee for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Compatriots of the National People’s Political Consultative Conference, and Mr. Zheng Gangmiao, Head of The United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, were among the guests who had made the trip to Hong Kong for the event.

In his speech, Mr. An Min said that the CGCC has come a long way and attained an undeniable historical significance in Hong Kong which it can take pride in. In the past, the word “Chinese” was always consigned to the shadows of the local and international communities. Today, the same word is revealing a new luster that commands attention at home and abroad. Embodying the virtues of hard work, perseverance and patriotism, the CGCC will continue to inspire respect within the business community and elsewhere.

The CGCC’s 48th Term Committee Members Inaugural Ceremony was held on November 30. The luminaries at the event included Mr. Tung Chee Hwa and Mr. Zheng Wantong, Vice-Chairmen of the National Committee of the People’s Political Consultative Conference; Mrs. Carrie Lam, Acting Chief Executive of the HKSAR; Mr. Peng Qing Hua, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR; Mr. Ren Qiliang, Vice-Minister of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council; Ms. Zhao Yufang, Vice Governor of Guangdong Province; Mr. John Tsang Chun Wah, Financial Secretary of the HKSAR; Mr. Zhang Qiujian, Deputy Secretary-General of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference; Mr. An Min, Vice-Chairman of the Subcommittee for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Compatriots of the National People’s Political Consultative Conference; Ms. Yin Xiaojing, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR; Mr. Li Yuanming, Deputy Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the HKSAR; Mr. Yu Ping, Vice-Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade; Mr. Tang Bingquan, Vice-Chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

During the ceremony, Dr. Charles Yeung, the incoming Chairman of the CGCC, was presented with the official seal of the CGCC by Dr. Jonathan Choi Koon Shum, his predecessor. Dr. Charles Yeung, together with Vice-Chairmen Mr. David Fong, Dr. Ian Chan, Mr. Yuen Mo, Mr. William Lee, Mr. Chong Hok Shan, Mr. Lam Shu Chit, Dr. Lo Man Tuen, Mr. Ricky Tsang, and the Standing Committee Members, Committee Members and Association Committee Representatives all received certificates from the guests of honour.

In his speech, Dr. Charles Yeung said that the new Standing Committee and Committee Members are committed to upholding the same heritage of patriotism - for China, for Hong Kong – that the CGCC has come to be known for. They will continue to take an active part in the economic development of Hong Kong and to promote economic cooperation between the mainland and the rest of the region. They will also work to enshrine social responsibility as part of the entrepreneurial spirit and help create a harmonious society. The CGCC will continue to expand its network to support its services for the business sector and to make an even greater contribution to the stability and prosperity of Hong Kong. At the same time, it will push for greater Guangdong-Hong Kong economic and trade cooperation, strengthen economic exchange between Hong Kong and the Greater Pearl River Delta region, and assist member enterprises in participating in the Nansha, Qianhai and Hengqin infrastructural development projects. Last but not least, it will help groom a new generation of young entrepreneurs for the future.

As part of the ceremony, Mr. Jonathan Choi Koon Shum, former Chairman and new Life Honorary Chairman of the CGCC, and Mr. David Chan, Honorary Chairman of the CGCC, were presented with commemorative stands in recognition of their service to the association. The banquet, with 138 tables, catered to over 1,800 guests, including many representatives of the Guangdong and Macau business communities, the Standing Committee Members, Committee Members and Members, as well as friends of the association from all walks of life.

The evening’s entertainment included performances by the CGCC Choir and notable young vocalist Ms. Cheng Wing Fan. The evening ended on a high note with Hong Kong pop artist Kelly Chen regaling the audience with Big Day, Star To A Love Come True and other songs.
